Titanium alloy for seawater pipeline was prepared by unconsumable vacuum electrode arc melting furnace. The microstructure
phase composition and corrosion resistance of the casted and annealed Ti-based alloys were analyzed by means of OM
SEM
XRD and electrochemical methods. The results show that grain size of the casted Ti-based and the annealed alloys are both coarse structure. The microstructure at room temperature is mainly widmanstatten structure containingαphase with flat-shaped or basket-shaped structure. Moreover
the widmanstatten structure contains some net-like boundaryβ phase and Al3 Ti metallic compound. The potentiodynamic polarization curve and related electrochemistry analysis reveal that absence of over-passivation and breakdown phenomenon can be observed for Ti2Al-1Fe-1Mo-1Zr.Thus it can be concluded that the tested Ti-based alloys has a good corrosion resistance in 3.5% NaCl solution.
