The Al matrix and A359 matrix composites were fabricated by direct melt reaction method in novel system Al-Zr(CO3 )2and A359-Zr(CO3)2.The wear properties of 12%(Al3Zr+ Al2O3)p/Al and12%(Al3Zr+Al2O3)p/A359composites were investigated. The results show that wear resistance of the two composites prepared is superior to that of A359matrix
and the wear resistance of 12%(Al3Zr+Al2O3)p/A359is evidently superior to that of 12%(Al3Zr+ Al2O3)p/Al composites. The wear mechanism of the(Al3Zr+ Al2O3)p/A359is characterized by abrasive wear
while the(Al3Zr+ Al2O3)p/Al composites are characterized by the mixed wear of adhesive and abrasive wear.
