Influences of smelting purification and casting conditions on the microstructure of low frequency electromagnetic semi-continuous casting heat resistant rare earth magnesium alloy Mg-(4~5)Al-(1~2)Ca-(0.3~0.6) Mn - (0.5~0.7)RE (AC52) were investigated. The results show that magnesium alloy melting furnace with the stainless steel net as filter can improve greatly the purity of the melt. Under the condition of 30 Hz
with the current intensity of 60 A and casting speed of 165 mm/min
the uniform microstructure with fine grain can be observed in the AC52 magnesium alloy. Meanwhile
the difference of grain size between the outer and heart can be neglected
and obvious segregation is absent.
