The refining effects of temperature-induced irreversible liquid-liquid structure transition
low melt temperature and high-low temperature melt mixing ratio on primary silicon in the Al-18Si alloy were investigated by melt mixing treatment. The effects of low-melt temperature and mixing ratio of high-low temperature melt on refinement of primary Si have been summarized
and the action mechanism of high-temperature melt state and semi-solid-state low-temperature melt has been also analyzed. The results show that the primary silicon in the alloy slurry is remarkably refined by melt mixing treatment mixed at a proper ratio when the high-temperature melt is heated to a temperature which has undergone melt structure transition and the low-temperature melt is held at a proper temperature in range of semi-solid zone
where the average size of primary silicon is refined to less than 12 μm.
