The microstructure and mechanical properties of the hot extruded Mg-2Ca-5Zn magnesium alloy were investigated by the optical microscope(OM)
scanning electron microscope( SEM) and universal material testing machine. The results indicate that the fine grains in the extruded Mg-2Ca-5Zn magnesium alloy can be observed
and the Ca2Mg6Zn3 and Mg2Ca phase are dispersedly distributed due to its broken state. Meanwhile
the tensile strength and elongation of the extruded Mg-2Ca-5Zn magnesium alloy are 368MPa and 11.8%
respectively
apparently superior to those of the as-cast alloy.
