Graphite crucible containing SiC for aluminum melting was prepared by using flake graphite
silicon carbide
silicon powder and kaolin as raw materials. The specimens were sintered at 1 050 ℃
1 100 ℃
1 150 ℃ and 1 200 ℃ for 3 h
respectively. Then the oxidation resistance test was conducted at 700 ℃
800 ℃ and 900 ℃ for 6 h
respectively.The effects of SiC content
firing temperature
oxidation temperature and time on the oxidation resistance were investigated. The results show that the oxidation resistance is significantly improved with the increasing of the content of SiC
particularly in the higher oxidation temperature. The weight loss curve changes gently and the weight loss rate is lower for the specimen with the higher SiC content. The optimum firing temperature is 1 100~1 150 ℃.The weight loss rate increases with the increase of oxidation temperature and time
particularly in the temperature of 700~800 ℃.
