Directional porous copper was fabricated by directional solidification method under a pressurized hydrogen or gas mixture of hydrogen and argon. The samples were processed by an image analyzer to obtain the different pore diameter and inter-pore spacing. The theoretical porosity of all possible structures was calculated and compared with the actual porosity of the samples. The Gibbs free energy of every structure was calculated.Meanwhile
the evolution completeness of every possible structure was analyzed. The results show that calculated porosity of hexagonal pore structure exhibits the smallest deviation from actual porosity
where formed Gibbs energy is the lowest.Hexagon is the ideal structure because the hexagon structure is no vacant site and no interrupt in evolution of porous structure.
