Hypereutectic Al-Mn alloy and its Al2O3 particulate reinforced composites were prepared by stirring casting
and the microstructure of the two materials prepared was observed.Meanwhile
it was paid attention to the effects of different abrasive content and abrasive particle size on the erosion wear resistance of the two materials prepared. The results show that the Al-Mn alloy is mainly composed of aluminum-manganese solid solution phase
MnAl6 and Al11Mn4 phase
while δ-Al2O3 particles can be observed in the composite besides the mentioned microstructure. The wear loss rate of the two materials with the 3% abrasive addition is obviously higher than that of ones with the 1% abrasive addition. In addition
the weight loss rate of the two materials is firstly increased and then decreased with the increase of abrasive particle size.Furthermore
with the increase of abrasive contents
the maximum of wear loss rate moves toward the larger particle size.In addition
hypereutectic Al-Mn matrix composite is much better than hypereutectic Al-Mn alloy in erosion wear resistance with the same Mn content.
