The casting process for the shell-pressing was designed
simulated and optimized. Two kinds of gating systems were initially designed. ProCAST software was used to simulate the filling process
defect distribution and process improvement. According to the simulated results
the mid-pouring gating system was adopted. The simulated results reveal that the process of the mid-pouring gating system is completed after 3.99 s. Shrinkage holes and porosity defects at the bottom of the flange and the core of the casting can be observed
which are mainly related to the uneven distribution of the solidification field and the failure to obtain timely feeding. The process needed to be further optimized. An open riser is set at the flange of the casting for feeding
and three heating risers are used to improve the temperature field. In the final simulation results
the optimized process significantly improves the temperature field distribution
adjusts the solidification sequence and reduces defects
ensuring a higher process yield rate of castings.
