Effects of ultrasonic treatment on solidification structure and degassing of DC casting 7005 aluminum alloys were investigated. The results reveal that ultrasonic treatment can refine the solidification structure. The size of grain at the edge is decreased from 200 μm to 100 μm
while that of R/2 grain is decreased from 120 μm to 100 μm
and that of center grain is decreased from 100 μm to 80 μm
indicating the desirable refinement of the edge. Inserting depth of ultrasonic probe has important effect on grain refinement
and the hydrogen content in DC casting is decreased by 26.8% after ultrasonic treatment
showing that ultrasonic has desirable refinement and degassing effect on DC casting aluminum alloy.
