The WC particle reinforced iron-based composites with prefabricated structure were prepared by sand casting process. The influence of different prefabricated column diameters on the microstructure and three-body abrasive wear properties of WC reinforced iron-based composites was investigated. The results indicate that when the preform diameter is 5mm and 10mm
an obvious transition layer is formed between the preform and the iron-based matrix. The microstructure of the composite is mainly composed of WC

and the hardness of the transition layer and preform zone is higher than that of the high chromium cast iron matrix. The composites with prefabricated column diameter of 10mm exhibit the lowest wear rate and the optimal wear resistance
where the wear morphologies are characterized by furrows and spalling.
