The effects of coating technology on filling capacity of graphite casting and the quality of titanium alloy casting was investigated. The results indicate that the liquid dispersion of the titanium alloy is more uniform and stable after the coated graphite mold
and the filling ability of the thin plate is improved
effectively reducing the flow mark and cold shut defects on the surface of castings and improving the surface roughness
which is increased from 12.5 μm to 6.3 μm. Surface crack formation of castings is effectively avoided
and good adhesion with graphite is obtained without slag dropping. The metallographic examination demonstrates that the thickness of the diffusion layer on the surface of the casting is equivalent to that of the uncoated one
