The SAE1004 steel sheet with thickness of 0.7 mm and AA6111-T4 aluminum sheet with thickness of 0.1 mm were riveted with nail-free
and the joint quality was tested by the bottom thickness and resistance increment testing methods. The results indicate that the bottom thickness detection method of joint quality can reflect the degree of material deformation
which is insensitive to the negative effects induced by the pre-strain of the aluminum plate yet. The resistance of the joint can also reflect the degree of the material deformation
however
there exists a clearer correspondence between the increment of joint resistance and the bonding strength. When the bonding strength is decreased due to the increment of deformation resistance
the increment of resistance is also decreased due to the increment of the initial resistance. Therefore
the resistance increment method of joints is a appropriate reference value in the quality inspection of nailless riveted joints.
