The trade-off relationship between strength and plasticity(toughness) of titanium alloys seriously limits its further improvement and wide application. Heterogeneous titanium alloys can simultaneously improve the strength and plasticity(toughness) of conventional titanium alloys
which provides an important research and development direction to obtain titanium alloys with extraordinary strength and ductility. The microstructure
mechanical behavior characteristics and strengthening-toughening mechanism of heterogeneous titanium alloys were reviewed. Based on the current research status and shortcomings
future development trends and research directions of heterogeneous titanium alloys were put forward.
