The application of magnesium alloy as a structural member has been restricted due to its poor mechanical properties such as yield strength and hardness. A lot of results of rare earth(RE) magnesium alloys were presented on the smelting
casting
heat treatment
plastic processing etc. By adjustment of the type
shape and distribution of the second phase in the alloy
the relationship between alloy composition-process parameters-structure and properties was gradually established. The characteristics and precipitation law of the second phases in Mg-Zn-Gd alloys were expounded
and the influence of alloy composition and processing technology on the mechanical properties of the present alloy was reviewed. Finally
the problems that need to be concerned in the Mg-Zn-Gd alloys were put forward.
