The effects of Al-Ti-C-B master alloy on microstructure and mechanical properties of A356 alloy were investigated. The results indicate that the addition of AlTiCB to A356 alloy can significantly refine the α-Al dendrite
and the grain size can be refined to less than 150 μm. The microstructure becomes more uniform
and the desirable addition amount of trace element AlTiCB is 1.0%
where tensile strength and elongation of the alloy reaches the highest value of 320.8 MPa and 10.0%. The TCB particles existing in the Al-TCB seed alloy play a role of the effective nucleation particle of the primary α-Al
contributing to efficient
long-lasting and stable refining effect on A356 alloy.
