A mathematical model of heat transfer was established
and the changes of the temperature field during the solidification process of ingots with ?40 mm~?160 mm were analyzed. The results indicate that the larger-scale ingot has a larger temperature gradient and stronger segregation tends to occur. Although electromagnetic stirring can well control the solidification process of the alloy
electromagnetic stirring is not a good solution foringots with small cross-section of ?40 mm. For larger-scale ingot with ?160 mm
linear stirring is more effective than rotary stirring
of which the effect is desirable at the current of 100 A and the frequency of 8 Hz to 10 Hz.
