The effects of different solid solution temperatures on the microstructure and mechanical properties of 2195 Al-Li alloy were investigated by differential thermal analysis
electron microscopy analysis
and tensile tests. The results indicate that solution treatment can improve the mechanical properties of 2195 alloy. As the solid solution temperature increases
the residual Al
2
Cu phase is gradually dissolved into the matrix
leading to the maximum supersaturation solid solution
achieving solid solution strengthening. However
the deviation of solid solution temperature from the optimal system promotes the recovery of recrystallization and over-burn in the alloy
resulting in deterioration of the mechanical properties.
