High chromium cast iron matrix ceramic composites reinforced with ZTA ceramic particles were prepared by negative pressure casting infiltration method with Ni and Cr coating on the surface of ZTA particles. The microstructure

element distribution and phase composition of the composite were analyzed by SEM

EDS and XRD

and effects of the composites on the casting infiltration and interface bonding were analyzed. The results indicate that there exists a transition zone at the interface of the composites under negative pressure casting infiltration

which is mainly composed of Si and Na with diffusion and aggregation of Al

and contains Fe

Cr

Ni

C

O and other elements. The wettability of ceramic interface is improved by diffusion of elements

promoting the infiltration and bonding of interface. On the Ni coating condition

multiple compounds including CrNiFe

NiSi

3

P

4

Fe

2

Al

5

Na

2

NiFeF

7

NaAlSiO

4

Zr

3

NiO are generated in the transition layer of ceramic particles. Cr

3

O

4

AlCrFe

2

Na

6

Al

4

Si

4

O

17

and other compounds are formed in the transition layer of ceramic coated with Cr. These compounds can improve the wettability of ceramics and the casting infiltration effect

promoting the combination of ceramics and high chromium cast iron.
