The casting process simulation software MAGMA was adopted to simulate the filling and solidification process of the low-pressure casting for aluminum alloy motor shell. The generation area of casting defects was predicted and the causes were analyzed. On this basis
the solidification process was optimized and verification experiment was conducted. The results indicate that the shrinkage cavity and porosity defects can be effectively reduced by analyzing mold temperature field
properly adjusting the mold structure and adding cooling channels to enhance the cooling effect. The performance of the motor shell produced by the optimized process was remarkably improved
where all quality and performance indicators meet the practical requirement.
