A numerical simulation on the directional solidification process of high purity aluminum was conducted by finite element simulation software ProCAST. The directional solidification was successfully simulated by self-built model. The result reveal that during the solidification process
the special flow field and temperature field lead to the formation of the abnormal solute enrichment zone in the ingot
which should be eliminated through appropriate stirring in the middle of solidification during the actual production.
