The semi-solid stirring casting method was employed to prepare the 17% SiC
p
/A357 aluminum matrix composites. The effects of the processing parameters including stirring temperature
stirring rate and stirring time on the homogeneous distribution of SiC
p
particles were investigated and the process was optimized. The results reveal that the stirring in semi-solid temperature range of the alloy is beneficial to reduce inspiratory and promote uniform distribution of SiC
p
particles compared with liquid stirring
while SiC
p
particles will be pushed to the boundary by larger primary phase during the process with a lower temperature
resulting in uneven distribution of SiC
p
particles.The distribution uniformity of SiC
p
can be increased by increasing stirring rate and prolonging stirring time
which will tend to be deteriorated with a longer time. The optimized stirring process parameters under test conditions are presented as follows:stirring temperature of 610℃
stirring speed of 800 r/min
stirring time of 20 min.SiC
p
particles are evenly distributed in the ingot structure of large-scale aluminum matrix composites with φ240 mm×330 mm and 41 kg.
