The effects of cooling rate on the solidification characteristics and microstructure of Al-3Fe alloy were investigated by cooling curve measurement
optical microscope(OM)and X-ray diffraction(XRD).The results indicate that in the cooling rate of 0.69~11.8℃/s
the microstructure of Al-3Fe alloy is composed ofα-Al dendrites
primary Fe-rich phases
which mainly contains Al
3
Fe
Al
6
Fe and Al
5
Fe
2
phases
and interdendrite eutectic structures.the cooling rates have an obvious effect on the solidification characteristics and microstructure of Al-3Fe alloy.With the increase of cooling rates
the nucleation temperature of primary phases and eutectic reaction temperature are decreased
with the solidification structures refined significantly.
