Based on the structural features of the current electromagnetic braking(EMBr) configuration
a new type of EMBr was proposed
which can be applied to the thin slab continuous casting process
namely Vertical-Combined Electromagnetic Braking(VC-EMBr). The multiple behaviors of metallurgical in CSP funnel-shaped mold were numerically simulated under the brake of VC-EMBr through ANSYS FLUENT commercial software. The results indicate that the horizontal magnetic poles of VC-EMBr can reduce the penetration depth of molten steel and promote the floatation and removal of inclusions. The vertical magnetic poles of VC-EMBr can suppress the molten steel surface velocity and improve the homogeneous temperature distribution in the mold region
which accelerate the uniform growth of solidified shell
and then achieve the metallurgical effect of electromagnetic braking.
