The AlSi10 MnMg longitudinal beam was produced according to the Flow-3 D simulation results
and the as-cast microstructure was observed and analyzed for typical positions. The metallography reveals the typical defects including segregation
air entrapment
shrinkage and oxide inclusion. According to the distribution and microstructure of the defects
the countermeasures were presented to reduce the casting defects. The alloying element can be distributed uniformly in the alloy through stirring the melt. Oxide inclusions can be decreased by adopting dense filter. Shrinkage porosities can be reduced through extending hold pressure time. Air-entrapment defects can be declined through optimizing gating system or using vacuum die casting.
