The TiB/Ti-6Al-4V composites were prepared by SPS sintering.The effects of TiB

2

addition on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the composites were investigated.The results show that the Ti-6Al-4V particles have not undergone significant deformation during the ball milling process

and the TiB

2

is dispersedly embedded on the surface of Ti-6Al-4V particles.After SPS sintering

the matrix structure of the composite is changed from a sheet-like Wei′s structure to an approximately equiaxed structure due to the addition of TiB

2

.The TiB reinforcing phase formed by the reaction presents in the form of rods and whiskers

and it is distributed along the Ti-6Al-4V particles in a network.As the increases of TiB

2

addition

the amount of TiB in the reinforcing phase is increased

and the strength and hardness of the composites are increased continuously.Compared with that of the sintered Ti-6Al-4V

the engineering strain of adding 1% TiB

2

composite is increased and reached the maximum value.When the addition is more than 1%

the strain of the composite is decreased.
