The pedestal of DM3500 die casting machine was analyzed to reduce the high manufacturing cost.The variable density topology algorithm and size optimization algorithm were applied.Stiffness of the pedestal under four different working conditions was calculated through finite element analysis and was used as constraint condition for topology optimization.Based on the element density contour
18 steel plates can be removed.Further on
the optimization model of the pedestal was built
and by analyzing the element thickness distribution contour
the final optimized design was determined.As a result
the comparison with the original design under the same working condition indicates that the stiffness and strength of the new design pedestal reach design criteria with 5.98 t weigh reduction
which is 31.6% weight reduce rate.
