Effects of different ultrasonic volumetric power density and holding time on AZ31 magnesium alloy melt purification by ultrasonic field were investigated. The results indicate that the ultrasonic treatment can accelerate separation of inclusions in the melt and realize melt purification. The desirable ultrasonic volumetric power density is 0.30 W/cm3
and increase of the holding time appropriately is beneficial for purification. The more inclusions the ingot has
the lower conductivity is
so the conductivity can characterize the level of purification.
