age hardening and mechanical properties of Mg-10Gd-3Y-0.6Zr-1Ag alloy were analyzed by SEM

hardness testing and tensile testing.The results show that as-cast structure of the alloy consists mainly ofα-Mg matrix

Mg2Gd and Mg5 Gd phases.The Ag element is dissolved homogeneously in matrix with absence of formed compounds.The aging curves of Mg-Gd-Y-Zr-Ag alloy indicate that the alloy exhibits obvious age hardening characteristics
and peak aging time of alloy is shortened
however
effect on hardness of alloy can be ignored with 1% Ag addition.The optimized aging process parameters of alloy are presented by characteristic curve.The strength of T6 heat treatment alloy is obviously improved.However
Ag element addition is not obvious related with mechanical properties of the as-cast and heat treatment alloy at room temperature.
