Carburising coating was synthesized on the surface of AZ91 Dby electrolytic saturation in the aqueous solution containing glycerine.The phase constituent
morphology
element distribution
thickness and microhandness of the coating are characterized by XRD
SEM
EDS
thickness tester and microhardness tester.And the process and mechanism of the film formation were discussed.The results show that the total thickness reaches approximately 29μm after 5min at 156 V
which mainly is composed of Mg2C3
MgC2 and Al4C3.The micro-hardness of the film reaches 178.76HV0.025.Electrolytic saturation can synthesize rapidly thick carburising coating with high hardness on the surface of magnesium alloys.
