Effects of Cu on microstructure and mechanical properties of as-cast Mg93Zn6Y1 alloy were investigated.The results show that with the addition of Cu
the microstructure of as-cast Mg93Zn6Y1 alloy is refined significantly
and the eutectic phase
such asα-Mg+ Mg3Zn6 Y phase(I-phase)+ MgZnCu phase(Laves phase)in as-cast Mg91.5Zn6Y1Cu1.5alloy
is distributed in form of continuous net-like structure in the dendrites and the grain boundary.The mechanical properties of as-cast Mg93Zn6Y1 alloy are improved with Cu addition at room temperature and elevated temperature.The tensile strength and elongation of as-cast Mg91.5Zn6Y1Cu1.5alloy at room temperature and elevated temperature reach up to 178 MPa
