The feasibility of barium zirconate(BaZrO3)using as the mould material for investment casting titanium alloy was evaluated. The face coating of BaZrO3-based mould shell was prepared with homemade BaZrO3 particles used as refractory and yttrium sol used as binder.Effects of S/L ratio and grain gradation on properties of slurry including the viscosity
the suspension behavior were investigated. The baking process was finally determined through analyzing bending strength and the fracture morphology of mould shell after baking at different temperatures and hours. The results show that desirable properties including viscosity and suspension behavior of slurry can be realized with S/L ratio of 3.0and the content of fine powder of 50%

0%.The mould shell has appropriate bending strength after baking for4 hours at 1 500℃.The investment casting experiment of TiNi alloy was carried out in BaZrO3-based mould shell. The poor wettability and thin reaction layer between the mould shell and metal melt indicates that BaZrO3 is a desirable material for investment casting titanium alloy.
