BZn18-26 and QSn6.5-1scraps were used to prepare lead-free free-cutting Si brass to substitute for HPb59-1.Effects of Si on the structure of brass prepared were investigated.The results show that the Si content in the brass is related obviously with the microstructure of the brass.With the Si content of 0.2%

the alloy is composed ofαphase in board strips shape mainly andβphase
and the amount ofβphase is increased with the increase of Si content.When Si content is0.8%
the matrix isβphase in polygon
andαphase is distributed in grains and boundary.When Si content is 1.0%
the matrix isβphase with a large number of phases in small particle and blocks.It is speculated according to the atomic percentage that the phases belong to composites Cu5Si+βor Cu2Mg+βin tiny granular
