Hot compression tests of Mg-4Al-0.29Mn-0.97Gd magnesium alloy were performed on Gleeble-1 500hot simulator with strain rates in range of 0.1s-1 to 5s-1 and deformation temperature at200℃

00 ℃.The experimental results reveal that the dynamic recrystallization occurs in the alloy during hot compression.Deformation mechanism at specimen edges is mainly characterized by twin-crystal deformation
and deformation mechanism at center belongs to recrystalization.The main process of hot compressive deformation of magnesium alloy is controlled by deformation temperature and strain rate.
