Temperature distribution of steel castings is simulated and shrinkage or porosity is predicted for a special sand casting process-repouring process combined with real manufacture conditions. At the same time
the weight of castings
riser and gating system is calculated accurately to meet the demand of the process design. Temperature field simulation
prediction for shrinkage or porosity and calculation of weight play an assistant role in design. According to the simulated results
a new process has been designed and used for real manufacture to reach satisfactory quality. The computer solidification simulation technology can play a good role in foundry process design.
