The effect of titanium level on the microstructure and mechanical properties of AlSi7Mg0.3 alloy has been studied. As the titanium level is more than 0.12%
the elongation and impact toughness of the alloy drop rapidly
and the ultimate tensile strength rises slowly with no change in hardness and grain size. The change in mechanical properties are related to the appearance of titanium phase in needlelike form.The optimum level of titanium in AlSi7Mg0.3 alloy ranges over 0.08% ̄0.10%
in which
as the iron level is up to 0.18%
the impact strenght and elongation are satisfactory.
