The relationship between microstructure and properties of the reactive selfcomposing Al2O3/Al ceramic matrix composite was investigated in this paper. The results had shown that the bending strength and fracture toughness of the composite were affected by the content of aluminum alloy and porosity in the structure. When the metal content was about 20% ̄30%
bending strength and fracture toughness of the composite reached 380 ̄420 MPa and 8.5 ̄9.5 MPa\5m12
respectively. The pore in the structure was very detrimental to properties of the Al2O3/Al composite. Especially
as the metal content in the composite was less than 10%
