Dimensional stability of the conventional piston Al alloy ZL109
reinforced with aluminosilicate short fiber
in thermal cycle was investigated.The results showed that thermal cycle caused residual dimensional changes of the specimens
and with the fiber contents increasing
the extents of dimensional changes decrease obviously. It is considered that inte rnal stresses due to the mismatch in the thermal expansion between fibers and matrix induce thermal strain delay so as to reduce the dimensional changes of the specimens
