The numerical simulation was performed by PROCAST soft for mold filling of plate casting in EPC.The mold filling sequence of multi-step gating system and the mold filling pattern of bottom gating system
as well as the influence of pouring velocity in bottom gating system on casting defects were studied.The results showed that molten metal was prior to filling the up-ingate of multi-step gating system which leads to the turbulent flow of liquid metal fronts resulting in gas-hole or inclusion easily appeared in the castings while for the bottom gating system
the molten metal front was relative steady but the over-rapid pouring velocity can result in the gas-hole or inclusion.
