The microstructure characteristic of Al-Ti-C master alloy prepared by liquid-solid reaction method were investigated by SEM

EPA.Combining with thermo-dynamics approached the nucleation and fading mechanism of TiC particle.The experimental results show that the nucleation mechanism of TiC is that Ti atoms diffuse in certain mechanism onto the surface of TiC particles to form rich Ti layer near to the chemical composition of TiAl

α-Al phase is formed by the peritectic reaction of TiAl
3
and adjacent liquid Al during solidification.The refinement effect fading is resulted from the diffusion of C from TiC to liquid Al leading to the decrease of stability and the transformation of TiC to Al
