Effects of TEMHD on the microstructure of directionally solidified Al-4.0Cu alloy have been investigated by an optimized self-developed Bridgman directional solidification installation with a transverse direct current steady-state magnetic field.Microstructure is converted from typical dendrite to cell as the increase of magnetic induction intensity from 0 to 0.15 T with a tow-rate of 20 μm/s
50 μm/s
100 μm/s
200 μm/s
respectively The phenomenon was understood based on TEMHD and MHD(magnetic hydro-dynamic)effects.
