Finite element simulation of the effects of friction on the equal channel angular pressing for high-strength aluminum alloy was conducted by using DEFORM-3D program. The results show that the work load ascended with the increasing of the friction coefficient. When the constant increased from 0 to 0.3
the maxium load increased by 2.1 times. One part of load overcome the friction and the other part is used for deformation of the sample. Therefore the energy is wasted
and mold life was reduced on the condition of friction. In addition
with the increasement of friction coefficient
the average effective strain keep steady value
and the degree of effective strain uniformatiy at the inner of the sample decreased. As mentioned above
in the course of ECAP deformation
the inner wall of the mold should keep slippy and the appropriate lubricant is choosed to decrease the friction and the load
then grian refinement and microsturcture uniformity will be improved.
