We have developed a micro-arc anodic oxidation device to treat the die casting magnesium alloy specimens and then to investigate the effects of anodic film on tensile properties of magnesium alloy specimens. The results indicate that anodic film possesses uniform thickness and even lightness
consisting of MgO
Mg Al2O4 and Mg2SiO4
in which the MgO content is increased with extending treated time. The effects of anodic film on the tensile properties of magnesium alloy specimens can be ignored with proper treated time
however
with the increase of treated time
the tensile properties can be slightly deteriorated as a results of defects in the anodic film.
