The formation mechanism of micro-porosity in aluminum alloy castings and the numerical models for predicting micro-porosity have been surveyed. The numerical models were categorized into four types
such as criteria function
Darcy’s law coupled with the conservation and continuity equation
hydrogen-diffusion-controlled pore growth models
microstructure coupled with pore models
based on the studied literatures. The advantages and limitation of each type of the models were described. Finally
the future development of advanced microporosity prediction models was expounded.
