Effects of P-RE mixed modification with different P and RE additions on impact toughness of hypereutectic Al-20Si alloy were measured
which were compared with those of ones without modification treatment. The results reveal that impact toughness of the hypereutectic Al-20Si alloy can be obviously improved with P-RE mixed modification. With 0.08% P and 0.6% RE mixed addition
compared with that of 9.7862 J/cm2 of ones without modification
the impact toughness of the alloy makes 11.009 8 J/cm2
increased by 12.5%
exhibiting desirable properties. The mechanism of impact fracture is characterized by brittleness fracture together with ductile fracture
which is attributed to the refinement of primary Si and eutectic Si phase and the increase of strength and ductibility of the alloy caused by mixed modification of P and RE.
