Effects of different temperatures and subsequent solution treatment on microstructure and mechanical properties of hot extruded AZ61 magnesium alloy were investigated. Fracture morphology was observed by SEM (scanning electron microscope) and its fracture mechanism was presented. Mechanical properties of the alloy with refined grain can be effectively increased as a result of the generation of high density dislocation after hot extrusion. The hot-extruded AZ61 magnesium alloy exhibits uniform structure and desirable plasticity at 385℃. After solution treatment
the strength of the alloy is greatly improved with hot-extrusion at 370℃ while strength and plasticity are deteriorated at 385℃
