1)alloy was prepared by electric arc melting and annealed at 1200℃ for 50h.Microstructure and properties of the alloy were investigated by XRD(X-ray diffraction)
SEM(scanning electron microscope)and EDS as well as micro-hardness tester.The results reveal that Mo element can improve the stability of β-Nb5Si3 phase.EDS analysis shows that the alloy is composed of(Mo
Nb)5Si3 and β-(Nb
Mo)5Si3 solid solution with a little Mo3Nb2Si3 ternary intermetallics.The solubility of Nb in Mo5Si3 is much higher than that in MoSi2.With increasing in Nb content
the hardness of the alloy is firstly increased and then decreased
showing parabolic curves
and the maximum hardness of HV1616.7 can be observed.In addition
the hardness of the alloy annealed is higher than that without annealed.The indentation fracture toughness of the alloy has not been improved significantly.
