Effects of RE elements Y and Gd on microstructure and mechanical properties of ZA63 magnesium alloy were investigated by alloy preparation
microstructural analysis and tensile testing. The results reveal that with appropriate RE element Y and Gd addition
τ-phase in the ZA63 alloy is converted from semi-continuous network structure into needle-like or rod-like structure with more homogeneous distribution
in which Mg-Al-Zn-RE phase is formed as a result of some RE solution
and ε-phase is converted from island shape into fine particle. With increasing in RE addition
the tensile strength and elongation of the alloy after T6 treatment exhibit firstly increased and then decreased at room temperature
150℃
and 175℃. Maximum value of tensile strength and elongation of the alloy at room temperature
