Effects of quenching process on mechanical properties of 7075 aluminum alloy were examined by the universal mechanical testing machine and SEM (scanning electron microscope) to obtain the optimal quenching parameters. The results reveal that a wide quenching temperature range can be employed for treating 7075 aluminum alloy
however
overheating can be observed at 490℃
so the optimal quenching temperature is selected at 470±5℃
meanwhile
the water temperature and transferring time should be controlled below 40℃ and 30 s
respectively. The time span between quenching and aging treatment has little effect on mechanical properties of 7075 aluminum alloy.
