Shrinkage porosity (hole )in the investment casting Ti-47Al-2Cr-2Nb alloy blade was predicted by the ProCAST software. The simulated results were well in agreement with experimental ones
showing the reliability and precision of the software. Shrinkage porosity (hole) defects in the blade could not totally be eliminated by only feeding effect of riser. Effects of some ways
such as bottom copper plate and mold shell preheating
mold longitudinal gradient temperature and whole mold shell preheating
on elimination of shrinkage porosity (hole) in the blade were simulated comparatively. The results show that the whole mold shell preheating method is an ideal selection for totally eliminating shrinkage porosity (hole) in the blade with preheating up to 1000℃.
